Will I enjoy it?

We want to enjoy the countryside, the company and the exercise – we take our time and walk at a pace that suits everyone

If you are reasonably fit and generally active then there is no reason for you not to enjoy walking with us. You could pick a lower-mileage walk first and give it a try. The Surrey and Sussex countryside is full of rolling hills, woods, fields and meadows through which we can ramble and thankfully not too many mountains. We sometimes walk on the North or South Downs – those walks can be a little more undulating but the reward in terms of enjoyment is worth the effort

What should I wear and what should I bring?

Do you need an orange Kagoule and wooly hat? We think not.

It’s Britain and of course that means sunshine followed by rain for the other 11 months. Wear comfortable clothes and comfortable stout shoes or boots. We suggest you always bring an extra layer of clothing and a waterproof coat – you never know how the weather might change. Sunscreen and a hat are good additions in the summer.

If it is a “morning walk” then we usually pause halfway round – why not bring a drink and a snack (chocolate is always good)? For an “all-day walk” bring a packed lunch as well. Occasionally we stop at a pub or tea room – this will be identified on the walks programme
